qualitative research calls

If you want to know what people really think, you have to ask them.

By speaking to stakeholders off the record we can get a good understanding of what the local priorities are to ensure clients don’t waste time and money. How does the planning committee work in practice, is it an officer or member-led council, how does party politics fit in to decision making?

VDK Research speaks to the people who make the decisions to give clients an understanding of what the local issues are.

the challenge

A client’s agency wanted to have a full understanding of what councillors really wanted from Section 106 agreements for major developments.

the approach

VDK Research worked with the agency to identify key target interviewees and lines of questioning.

the outcome

After multiple interviews, it transpired that the relationship between officers and members had broken down and what members wanted was very different to what officers were saying. The end client made some minor amendments to their plans and won support from the planning committee.

“The insight was fantastic - we’d geared everything towards what the officers told us and it didn’t work and now we knew why.”

“when a pattern started to emerge we shifted the research a little and found out so much more than we ever expected.”
